How Double-Take Works

Double-Take works by replicating data real-time from server to server across any IP connection. Double take is one of the most effective data mirroring software packages available. You have literally hundreds of options in how you configure Double Take to mirror your servers. Something you may want to look at are our guides to how you can configure Double-Take and hopefully some of the schematics in the attached presentations will help.

The new version of Double-Take (Version 5) now offers replication of OS and applications as well as the data so giving you full server protection.

You can now provide Double-Take's market leading data replication for your Tier 2 servers by using Double-Take SRO (Server Replication Only). Positioned at a more cost effective price point, click here to find out more.

Double-Take 5 is Here!

Feature Highlights:

Full-Server Failover
Full-server Failover applies the source server’s operating system configuration, applications, and data to the target.  Full-server Failover is easy to configure and easy to manage because applications do not have to be pre-installed and maintained on the target.Full-server Failover supports one-to-one connections of 32-bit or 64-bit servers and can fail over the LAN or WAN to dissimilar hardware. Failover between 32-bit and 64-bit servers is not supported.

Server Recovery Option
Using the same technology as Full-server Failover, the Server Recovery Option can be purchased to provide many-to-one full server protection, with the ability to recover servers as needed after failure.

The Server Recovery Option supports 32-bit or 64-bit servers and can recover over the LAN or WAN to dissimilar hardware. Recovery between 32-bit and 64-bit servers is not supported.

Enterprise Install Console
The Enterprise Install Console helps customers deploy and maintain their Double-Take installations. From within this one console, they can automate the install or upgrade of Double-Take on all servers throughout the enterprise.

Interoperability with HSM products
Double-Take 5.0 will interoperate with Hierarchical Storage Management solutions from Commvault and Bridgehead. When these products archive files, replace them with placeholder files, and recall the files, Double-Take will replicate their every move. Additionally, when Double-Take 5.0 performs its Verify operations on archived files, it will recognise the place-holder files and avoid unwanted file recalls.

Microsoft Share Point Protection
The Double-Take 5.0 Application Manager feature now supports protection for the Windows Share Point Services components (WSS) of Share Point Server 2007and also allows the Share Point administrator to extend IIS installed on the target into the Share Point server farm.  The Double-Take Application Manager feature provides one-to-one protection of Share Point SQL data and supports failover and failback across both LAN and WAN connections.

Microsoft Exchange 2007 Cluster Support
The Double-Take 5.0 Application Manager feature now includes support for protecting the mailbox server role in a clustered environment.
Supported configurations include:- Cluster-to-cluster protection for the Mailbox Server role
- Cluster-to-standalone (with Mailbox Server role only)

Enhancements to Target Data Verification
The Double-Take 5.0 Application Manager feature now supports Target Data Verification for Exchange 2007 in non-clustered, consolidated installations. Testing can be performed against the replicated copy of Exchange data without the need to stop tracking changes on the source server or to re-mirror the dataset once testing is complete. Additionally, a new command line interface (CLI) is available to support scheduling of Target Data Verification on a regular basis.

Enhanced Restore
Restores in Double-Take 5.0 maximise the uptime for end-users because there is no need to take applications offline during a restore. Any changes made by users between the time the restore is started and initiation of failback will be replicated to the source.

Advanced Scripting
Scripting in Double-Take 5.0 can be executed within a specific user context. There are also new script execution points that allow users to have scripts activated around mirror events, such as mirror start, mirror complete, and mirror stop.
